What is Title IX?
Title IX of the Education Amendments 1972 (20 U.S.C. s1681 et seq.) and its implementing regulations, 34 C.F.R. Part 106 (Title IX), state the following: “No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.”
The College strives to maintain a healthy and safe environment where all members of the community, students, faculty and staff feel welcome on College campuses and classrooms. Students, faculty and staff are thus prohibited from conducting themselves in a way that results in any form of sexual harassment, sex-based harassment and/or sexual violence.
Here is what you need to know about this important law and what it means for you.
- Title IX prohibits sex-based discrimination in every program or activity at STC.
- This includes sex discrimination, sexual harassment, sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence and stalking.
- Report incidents of sexual misconduct to the Title IX Coordinator by filing a report online, emailing TitleIX@southtexascollege.edu, or calling 956-872-4664.
- If you have experienced sexual misconduct, support is available for you here at STC and in the community.
