Since 2011, the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program has been a source of financial support for families in Hidalgo and Starr Counties. Administered by United Way of South Texas, VITA provides free income tax preparation to those earning less than $65,000 annually. A dedicated team of IRS-trained volunteers is ready to navigate the tax process with eligible individuals, ensuring accurate returns.
What You Need
- Valid Identification
- Social Security Cards for all household members
- Forms W-2, W-2G, 1099-R from all employers
- 1095A form if you purchased insurance through the Marketplace
- Interest and dividend statements from banks (1099)
- A copy of last year’s tax return
- Bank Routing and Account Numbers for direct deposit
- Total paid for daycare provider and the daycare provider’s tax ID number
- For married Filing Joint tax return, both spouses must be present to sign the forms
